Special court discharges Karnataka minister in three cases registered by I-T department
BENGALURU: In a big relief for Karnataka water resources minister D K Shivakumar, a special court people’s representatives on Thursday discharged him from three cases registered by the Income tax department.
Special judge allowed the applications filed by the minister seeking discharge from the case, holding that the computation of income tax evasion and assessment proceedings are yet to be completed.
The judge, however, reserved the liberty to the Income Tax department to register the complaint once the assessment proceedings are completed.
DK Shivakumar had sought for discharge from the case claiming that the income tax department could not have launched prosecution even before culmination of assessment proceedings for the year 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.
In one of the cases, Shivakumar has also been charged under section 201 of IPC, for destruction of evidence, for allegedly tearing of a sheet of paper during an income tax raid about 18 months ago.
