JD(S) to field Congress candidates
At least four Congress candidates will be contesting on a JD(S) symbol in the Lok Sabha elections. A decision was taken after former prime minister HD Deve Gowda consulted Congress leaders to allow their candidates to contest on a JD(S) symbol in Uttara Kannada, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Bengaluru North and in Vijayapura.
The JD(S) got these Constituencies in the seat sharing deal with the Congress, but it has no base and no formidable candidates to field.
That is why the party has decided to field Minister RV Deshpande’s son Prashanth Deshpande (Uttara Kannada), Pramod Madhvaraj (Udupi Chikkamagaluru), Shivaraj Tangadagi (Vijayapura) and BL Shankar or an industrialist friend of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge (Bengaluru North).
Meanwhile, Minister HD Revanna’s son Prajwal will file his nomination papers for Hassan Lok Sabha on Friday. Earlier there were doubts whether Prajwal, a politically ambitious grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, would contest or not. As Gowda, who will turn 87 on May 1, was unable to find a safe Constituency, Prajwal had offered to back out. At a meeting between Gowda, his sons - Revanna and Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, the grandson offered to make way for the family patriarch.

BJP defers list announcement
Discontentment over selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha seat has forced the BJP to defer announcing the list for two days. There has been opposition to a few sitting members including Ministers Ananth Kumar Hegde and Ramesh Jigajinagi, Shobha Karandalaje, Pratap Simha and Naleen Kumar Katil.
There has been opposition to A Narayanaswamy in Chitradurga. Two MLAs, Goolihatti Shekhar and Chandrappa, have revolted openly and demanded that a candidate from the Bovi community be given ticket. In Tumakuru too, there is a stiff resistance to GH Basavaraj being given ticket. In Ballari, the district BJP unit is divided over making Devendrappa as candidate. Another group is demanding that Venkatesh Prasad, brother of Congress MLA Nagendra be given the ticket.
Power disruption, a desperate act: BSY
BJP president BS Yeddyurappa termed the State government’s disruption of Sumalatha’s rally in Mandya as an act of desperation.
“Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s desperation and the fear that son Nikhil would lose the Lok Sabha has made him to stoop to low standards,” he said.
