Bangalore suburban rail in 3 years, says Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa
Bengaluru: The long pending suburban railway project in Bangalore will be taken up on priority. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said the rail project will be completed in three years. "The approximate cost of the project is ₹18,600 crore. It will be shared in the ratio of 20% by the State, 20% by the Centre and rest will be taken as institutional loan. The project will be dedicated to the nation in the next three years," News agency PTI quoted the Karnataka CM as saying.
After Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Secunderabad, Bangalore will become the latest city to have its own suburban rail network.This will give ease to commuters across the city and give a much needed boost to country's overcrowded IT capital. According to a report by TomTom, Bangalore beat 415 other cities across 57 countries to earn the title of having the worst traffic situation in 2019.
Presenting the longest Union Budget till date, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a formal announcement, and committed to 20% of equity contribution. Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for incorporating the project in the Union Budget, Yediyurappa said under this project, suburban railway stations will come up at 57 prominent places in Bengaluru.
